Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born into a musical family on August 9, 1963, in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. as well as a cousin of the singing sensation Dionne Warwick. It sold 44 million copies. When she gave birth to her daughter Bobbi Brown, she got married to Bobby Brown of the ex-New Edition group. At this point that her much documented substance abuse began.
